If you experience an emergency such as homelessness or urgent housing repairs outside of normal office hours (after 5pm, weekends, or bank holidays), support is still available.

You can contact the out-of-hours service on 01597 827464. Please note that only priority cases will be addressed immediately; non-urgent matters will be followed up the next working morning when offices reopen.

Support if You Are Homeless or at Risk

If you are already homeless or believe you may become homeless within the next 56 days, the law requires the Council to assess your situation and provide support. This begins as soon as you request assistance with your housing. Every case is unique, and the help you receive will depend on your individual circumstances.

If you are homeless, eligible, in priority need, and without anywhere to stay temporarily, the Council will ensure you are offered emergency accommodation. This short-term housing provides immediate safety while Housing Services work with you to find a more suitable, longer-term option.

Reporting Rough Sleeping

Members of the public play an important role in helping to support vulnerable people. If you see someone sleeping rough in your community, you are encouraged to report it to the Council’s Housing Team. Intervention can make a critical difference, particularly during cold weather when rough sleepers are at greater risk. If you are concerned about someone, please contact Housing Services on 01597 827464.
