Builth Wells Town Council has successfully completed the refurbishment of the gravesite of Mr Thomas Lant, a significant historical figure and benefactor of Builth Wells and the surrounding area.

The project was first proposed several months ago by Councillor Mark Hammond, who highlighted Mr Lant’s incredible generosity and lasting impact on the local community.

“The amount of land Mr Lant gifted to our communities was phenomenal,” said Cllr Hammond. “It was upsetting to see his grave in such poor condition. This refurbishment at St Matthews Church, Llanelwedd, is a respectful way to honour his memory and remind us of his generosity.”

A Community Effort

The refurbishment was made possible not only through the support of Builth Wells Town Council but also with donations pledged by Llandrindod Town Council and Llanelwedd Community Council.

The restoration work was carried out by R.W. Evans & Son Ltd, respected memorial masons from Brecon, who have restored the gravesite to a condition worthy of Mr Lant’s legacy.

This project serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving local heritage and recognising those who have contributed so much to our community.
