Within most communities there are children and young people who face hardships and challenges every day, but who are determined to overcome adversity by showing incredible perseverance.

For example, those coping with disabilities, illnesses, and/or suffering from bullying or discrimination.

Then there are those who show fantastic community spirit, by helping others, champion causes, or caring for members of their families.

There are also children and young people who exhibit extraordinary bravery by undertaking acts of courage in dangerous situations or in the face of significant personal obstacles.

The Mayor, Cllr Hammond, has decided that he would like to recognise and celebrate the fact that we have such individuals, and to this effect he is launching the Mayors Award for under 18 years olds.

He is inviting families, members of the public, Teachers etc, to let him know of children and young people who meet the following criteria:

  1. Meets one or more of the following 3 areas:

    • Overcoming adversity

    • Displays fantastic community spirit

    • Exhibits extraordinary bravery

  2. Must live in the Builth Wells Community

  3. Must be under 18years old

The Mayor will then undertake the difficult task of choosing one person from an amazing group of individuals.

As the Mayor regards this as being such an important issue, he has decided that he will be awarding the chosen individual a cash donation of £250 from his personal Mayors Allowance, as well as a certificate of appreciation, to show them how important they are to the community and to hopefully make their Christmas a bit more memorable.

Please send your nominations to clerk@builthwellstowncouncil.org.uk

Nominations must be submitted before 1st December 2025.

The Mayor will then make his decision and inform the person making the nomination, as well the individual, during the week commencing 8th December…then arranging to meet up with them to give out the award.
