Hear to Help Charity: On Friday the Mayor, Cllr Hammond, met up with Dianne and Jayne from the Hear to Help Charity, to present them with a cheque for £500 which he was donating from his Mayors Personal Allowance.
The Charity was set up in 2014 after the death of Dianne’s daughter, Rhianna: Rhianna died from a rare form of cancer at the age of 25. Whilst Rhianna was fighting the disease, she spoke about wanting to set up a Charity after she had recovered, in order to give back something to the community who had been so supportive of her and her family.
Unfortunately, Rhianna lost her battle after a brave and inspiring fight. However, to honour her wishes, the family set up the Charity in late 2014.
The Charity has a simple purpose: to help and support people who have cancer by not only being there to listen and talk to those with the disease and their families, but also to offer financial support to help with things like having a day out with their families, or helping with travel costs etc.
Cllr Hammond said: When you hear about so much good coming out of such a tragic event, and it all being based on the vision Rhianna had whilst she was battling cancer, you cannot be anything else than humbled. Her family and friends, together with the support they have got from far and wide, has ensured she has a fantastic legacy. The cheque for £500 is just a small token of my appreciation of the work the Charity has been doing.
