This summer, Builth Wells businessman Toby Weale is lacing up his hiking boots for an incredible cause. On 30th and 31st July, Toby will embark on a challenging 43-mile hike from Aberystwyth to Newbridge-on-Wye—all to raise vital funds for the mental health charity Mid & North Powys Mind.
A Challenge Like No Other
This isn’t just a walk in the park. Toby and his team of hiking friends will carry all their supplies and camping equipment on their backs, completing the tough two-day trek with just one overnight camping stop.
Toby is no stranger to the great outdoors. As the founder of Highway Adventures, a travel business he launched in 2023, he’s been leading outdoor tours and challenges for years. But this fundraiser holds special significance.
“Mind is a charity that’s close to my heart,” Toby shares. “They’re doing incredible work in my community and across Mid and North Powys. Sometimes we all need someone to talk to, and Mind offers that support and so much more. I’m excited to take on this challenge—and blisters or not—I hope to raise as much as possible to help them continue their amazing work.”
Why Mid & North Powys Mind Needs Your Help
Mid & North Powys Mind provides free support, activities, and mental health services to local people. Their services include:
Talking therapies (CBT and counselling)
Mental health training
Peer support groups
Bereavement support
Young people’s services (ages 11 to 25)
‘In-work’ mental health support
A welcoming drop-in centre
They’ve recently secured funding to renovate their new home at the Dance Centre in Llandrindod Wells, but additional funds are urgently needed to fully furnish and equip the space for community use.
Join the Journey
Toby’s adventure kicks off at 6am on 30th July from Aberystwyth, with the finish line set for 6pm on 31st July at The New Inn Pub, Newbridge-on-Wye. Family, friends, and supporters will be cheering them on at the finish line!
Toby’s parents, Martin and Jess Weale—owners of local travel companies Weales Wheels and JJ Travels—will be providing essential backup support throughout the challenge.
